OCDC presents paper on co-op to co-op trade at ICA
At the ICA Global Conference and General Assembly, the U.S. Overseas Cooperative Development Council is presenting a paper it commissioned, "Co-op to Co-op Trade:Linking Smallholder Producer Co-ops in Developing Countries with Consumer Co-ops in Developed Countries."
The paper examines the current state of this type of trade, showcases five case studies and makes recommendations for increasing co-op to co-op trade.
"Food cooperatives in developed countries, along with cooperative development organizations like the members of OCDC, are uniquely positioned to help improve the food security and increase the income of smallholder farmers in developing countries," says Paul Hazen, OCDC executive director. "Our challenge is to develop the channels to grow this type of trade."
