Cooperative Leadership & Learning Event (CLLE) is a USAID funded program implemented by the Research Group of the US Oversees Cooperative Development Council (OCDC) in partnership with the Co-operative University of Kenya in Kenya. The program will run for 3 years (2019 – 2021) with three key events. Despite of the success of Kenyan urban cooperatives especially SACCOs, the development of rural cooperatives lags behind and remains often dependent on public support (with a few notable exceptions in dairy and coffee). Rural cooperatives are less likely to generate the capital they need to ensure effective service provision because their members are poorer and harder to reach.
