Cooperative Dependency in Developing Countries: A Systematic Literature Review

Cooperatives have played an integral part in the social and economic development of many developing countries, mainly because they have many capacities and characteristics that make them some of the most appropriate vehicles for sustainable development. However, like any other organization, cooperatives must be well managed, efficient and effective in the contemporary market. There are many barriers that adversely affect cooperative and prevent them from achieving this optimal performance. For instance, the US Overseas Cooperative Development Research Group (OCDC RG) and its member Cooperative Development Organizations (CDOs) have identified cooperative dependency as one of the key challenges for cooperative development.
