KUSCCO: Harnessing Youth Initiatives in the Growth of SACCOs: A case of Boda Boda SACCOS in Kenya

The successful engagement of Kenyan youth in the country’s workforce is paramount to economic and social development. One vehicle for youth inclusion is through associations and cooperatives, such as BODA BODA SACCOs, which are democratic savings and credit cooperatives whose members provide transport services. While this collective entrepreneurial action by transport providers has had some positive impact, the BODA BODA businesses struggle to reach a sustainable level of contributions and savings. This study sought to determine how the youth can be empowered, their savings initiative nurtured, and their BODA BODA enterprises improved. A cross sectional survey design was implemented toward this three-pronged objective.
