2024 Member Spotlight: SOCODEVI

In 2024, the US Overseas Cooperative Development Council (OCDC) added an Associate Membership tier, allowing for international Cooperative Development Organizations (CDOs) to join our alliance. Increasing our membership allows OCDC to broaden our impact as we carry out our mission to champion, advocate and promote effective international cooperative development.
SOCODEVI joined as our first Associate Member, and we are thrilled to end 2024 with this spotlight to showcase their work!
Enhancing Prosperity: The Transformative Impact of Cooperatives
Rooted in the Canadian cooperative and mutualist movement, SOCODEVI has been improving living conditions for communities worldwide for 40 years. Each year, by promoting the cooperative model as a lever for inclusive and sustainable development, SOCODEVI transforms the lives of millions of people.
Since 1985, our identity has been forged in the sixth cooperative principle, inter-cooperation. This notion of solidarity among cooperatives connects our network to the members of the organizations we support worldwide. Inter-cooperation is our lever to catalyze the fight against inequalities.
We change the world, one cooperative at a time. How do we achieve this?
- By creating and strengthening sustainable and inclusive cooperative enterprises that contribute to the prosperity of member families and communities;
- By consolidating women’s leadership and their economic empowerment so they can become agents of change; and
- By increasing resilience to climate change within rural communities by adapting and improving their agricultural practices.

- Improved the governance and economic performance of more than 300 cooperative enterprises.
