Our Team
Dr. Brian Warby developed a life-long commitment to international development from living in Brazil for two years as a young man.
Upon returning home to the U.S., he studied Political Science, with a particular focus in international political economy. After receiving a B.A. from Brigham Young University he continued his studies at the University of South Carolina. He wrote his doctoral dissertation about the effects of political stability on microfinance outcomes and was awarded a PhD in 2014.
Having been offered a faculty position at the University of Northern Iowa, he followed the academic route, presenting research at academic conferences, publishing his work in various peer-reviewed journals and as chapters in edited volumes. He also published his dissertation as a standalone book. In 2020, he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to teach and conduct research in Uganda. Amid the Covid disruptions, he began working with community development and nonprofit organizations in the US and in Uganda. Having found a new audience for and a different focus of his research, he resigned his tenured faculty position to join the OCDC.
