Maria Eugenia Diaz is Guatemala’s Project Manager of the Cooperative Leadership Advocacy and Engagement project at Global Communities
In her role, María Eugenia focuses on strengthening the cooperative sector and promoting the worker cooperative model. Maria Eugenia also has a special interest in the involvement of young people and women in the sector for economic development and reducing the driving factors of irregular migration. For María Eugenia, research, learning and collaboration are important to develop strategies for better service to cooperatives and the development of communities. Prior to joining the Cooperative Development Program, she worked on food and nutritional security, rural development, youth entrepreneurship, women empowerment and the environment. Maria Eugenia started her career working in the Huehuetenango department with coffee producing communities and cooperatives. Maria Eugenia earned a Master’s Degree in local environmental management from San Carlos de Guatemala University and an Undergraduate Degree in Agronomy.
