Part 2: The Project – Progresando
FEDECOVERA is the first second-level cooperative in Guatemala to receive funds directly from USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Affairs (BHA). This project — PROGRESANDO (Progressing), is being implemented in the municipalities of Senahu and Panzos in Alta Verapaz, to support communities vulnerable to recent climate and economic crises. Activities will focus on improving hygiene practices, facilitating access to financial services, providing multi-purpose cash transfers, and strengthening local and community capacities for disaster risk reduction. These activities will be based on lessons learned, methodologies and materials from recent partnership programs funded by BHA in Guatemala, particularly in the Alta Verapaz region.
The duration of this project is 15 months. Activities benefit 600 families, who meet at least three of the following criteria and consist of:
- Children under the age of five.
- Pregnant women.
- Men or women over the age of 60.
- People with disabilities.
- Single parent households.
- Households without formal employment.
- Households without access to remittances.
- Households with little or no access to productive assets.
- Small-scale producers of basic cereals with access to 0.10-0.60 hectares of land.
